Comming from Western Europe, New York City seems to have endless of sunshine year-round. Even now in winter, it seems like 6/7 days are sunny.
I'm happy and surprised waking up with morning winter sunshine which is rare in most of Europe

Hi from Western Europe where it is clear and has been sunny all day!

Seriously though, NYC is very sunny in winter compared to Europe. The lower latitude helps.

Where did you come from in Western Europe?

If you’re from the UK, Ireland, …etc I’m not surprised NYC seems so sunny by comparison. However, if you’re from further south (southern France maybe) I’d be interested to hear the differences in the seasonality of the sunshine.

Northeastern United States is actually surprisingly sunny. Cities like New York City, Boston, Philadelphia all average around 2,500 sunshine hours a year. But then again, most of the United States would probably feel sunny for visitors or immigrants from Western Europe And yes, even the Pacific Northwest is probably sunnier than most of the UK...

NYC IS sunny
It haves similar sunshine hours to Buenos Aires (that haves 2558) and i consider Buenos aires to be a mostly sunny city, so NY must be.
Definetely very sunny compared to europe.

All-time record highest sunshine totals for winter months averaged over England and Wales (individual sites will have had higher totals, but I wouldn't know where to look for individual records):

December: 75.3 hours
January: 76.1
February: 118.2

NYC winter sunshine averages:

December: 139
January: 162.7
February: 163.1

Yes, compared to my part of western Europe NYC is ridiculously, unimaginably sunny! Only our national record-high May-August totals beat the NYC averages and even then it's not by much (in % terms of total possible sun allowing for our longer summer days I suspect our records might actually be slightly behind). One individual record which I do know is that the all-time sunniest month anywhere in England was 383.9 hours at Eastbourne in July 1911 - a highly impressive total IMO for its location, and a record I expect to stand for a very long time. Does anyone know the all-time sunniest month in NYC?

It would be nice if sunshine data were available in the US. It'd be interesting to find out the sunniest and cloudiest years on record.

It was sunny here this morning, but it's been overcast for a few hours. Wonder what it's like in NYC this afternoon.
