Oh, my bad! I don't believe Florida is warmer on average than Hawaii though.. but I'm sure there will be a dedicated thread to that one day or another
I believe it is, if you compare, say, Honolulu to Key West or Miami, because Hawaii's summers are cooler than Florida's. However it definitely is warmer than Florida in the Winter, with most places averaging a high above 80 F. The warmest average high anywhere in Florida is 77 F. Below are some comparison stats in degrees Fahrenheit taken from Wikipedia (these are the 1981-2010 normals so this was taken in warm period for all the locations):
So for our three representatives of South Florida, they are definitely warmer than Hawaii overall, because of hotter summers. Honolulu's hottest month average of 89/75 is a hair cooler than Miami's 91/77. However, our two representatives of Hawaii are definitely warmer than Florida in the Winter months. Even Key West falls short of the Hawaiian locations. Add in the fact that Hawaii is less prone to chilly weather in Winter (all-time record of 47 in Honolulu vs. 41 even in Key West), and we have a hands-down winner with Hawaii .
So if you are seeking to move to a place with warm weather in the winter months (which by the way is the last place I'd go), Hawaii is a superior destination to Florida that is often overlooked by people in the Snowbelt regions, et cetera, even if the cost of living is too high in a lot of cases. Summers, which are often cited as a negative of Florida, are also a hair cooler in Hawaii, even if they are still very hot and humid.

Your data is correct based on the NOAA/NWS site. Good research. Except one error: According to the NWS Miami site - the warmest average high in winter is not 77 F...but 79.6 F at Ochopee, FL (Oasis Ranger Station. About half of all winter days hit 80 F in Ochopee, and some winters never see highs below 68 F.

Ochopee, Florida is located on rt 41 just SE of Naples, north of Everglades National Park. I tried to obtain data you mentioned ( avg Jan high 79.6f)
all I could come up with is avg Jan high 77.2f average Jan low 56.6f
If the 79.6f figure is for one "warm" January then to me that's not an average, which usually is a 30 year period (example: 1981-2010)
The 79.6f figure seems too high, nearby Naples averages 76f.
Also don't forget the hottest parts of the US Southwest have "high" annual average temperatures too.
Average Annual temperature (1981-2010) at YUMA WSO Airport is 76.0f
Also Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport weather station avg annual temp: 75.1f
Death Valley, California average annual temperature at Greenland Ranch
is 77.2f ....very close to South Florida and Hawaii avg annual temps

The 79.6 F was the average three month winter high (Dec/Jan/Feb). It shows the average max temp in December as 79.8 F….January 78. 4 F…and Feb 80.6 F = Average winter high 79.6 F. I’m pretty sure this is the single warmest winter station on the USA mainland.
Yes your right - there are stations in the Desert Southwest that are no slouches either when it comes to average annual temps: The highest I can find is Yuma at 75. 7 F:
In fact, many of the deep Desert southwest NWS stations are not all that different than NWS stations in the southern half of Florida in terms of annual mean temps. The only real difference is that the winters are much warmer in Florida. NWS stations like Yuma, Phoenix…etc all have winters highs in the upper 60’s…while the southern Florida stations have winter highs in the middle/upper 70’s. I think Palm Springs might be the warmest in the deserts, with normal winter highs in the lower 70’s.
Death Valley is really awesome in that it not only has the highest extreme temperatures, it's almost the hottest by annual average as well, at 25.1°C/77.2°F. And that's on 36°N! It's the warmest for this latitude on Earth by a large margin.
By default most people always think Key West is the warmest station on the USA mainland. Not this winter so far!
With just one month to go in meteorological winter – Marathon,FL is beating Key West, FL by almost .5 F. Keep in mind, this is not like one town beating out a town 3 miles up the road - Marathon is more than 50 miles northeast of Key West and is a much smaller island. Marathon is a very narrow island, with the NWS reoprting station 100 yrds from the ocean. Marathon often seems much breezer than Key West, so temps in mid winter have to struggle to get as high as Key West Airport (somewhat sheltered). With one month left of meteorological winter – Marathon might end up as the warmest NWS station on the USA mainland this winter.
Sorry Key West.

Hey wavehunter007, I hear you know science. Do you believe in the many worlds theory (anything that could ever happen happens in some parallel universe)??
Well if this theory is true, then there must be alternate realities where Key West Florida's average high in its HOTTEST MONTH is -6F (-21C) and average low in its hottest month is -36F (-37C). In those universes Key West averages 38 inches of snow per year (96 cm)
And gues what ,in some alternate realities Miami Beach's record HIGH is 5F (-15C)
I am only saying if alternate realities exist these have to exist too. I wonder in those alternate realities if Miami and Key West still would attract snow birds?? (probaly not)
There are alternate realities where Singapore's average high in its coldest month is -44F (-42C) there are alternate realities where Perth averages 400 inches of snow per year (1016 cm)
