Well I guess the good news for coldies like me is the mean temperature for England as a whole is -1.9C so far.
Up to -1.3°C on the Hadley CET to the 4th.
Buxton is on an average of -1.6°C and is almost always colder than anywhere else in England so I find it hard to believe the CET could be lower so I think the Hadley CET is more accurate.
The past few years all of Europe took part but now UK, Ireland and even Brittany are missing out. NOT FAIR!!!
I'd say the past few years the British Isles had more remarkable cold outbreaks than the Continent compared to the standards, cold lovers in southern France were looking northwards with envy.
Anyway some models see a Greenland high replacing the current Scandinavian one. It should be better for you folks if it holds on.
How far from the city was this? What'd Amsterdam reach?
It was near Lelystad, about 25 miles northeast of Amsterdam on the southern shore of the Ijsselmeer.
Amstyerdam-Schiphol airport reached -19°C/-2°F, but it's not the city either.
Here you have the mins of that night in Benelux and northern France (the -23°C temp is not on it, but Lelystad's -22°C is):
In the last few days low temperatures fell to 20 F (-9 C) and a modest snow fell on the some of the subtropical Mediterranean cities like Marseille. I wonder if all the Canary Island Date Palms will die. Perhaps out “palm experts” can tell us:
According to Wunderground, Nice only hit 0°C during this cold snap. Since both Nice and Marseille are both on the Mediterranean coast, why is there such a huge difference in temperature? Different geography?
