Snow in Rome – First time in 25 years

Snow to Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica.

Snow in Sahara Desert, which had no snow for 33 years until last month.

Snow in North Africa in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. They are at a similar latitude as Virginia Beach, U.S. Also, The city is near the Mediterranean Sea, which is still quite warm, currently in the low 50s. And, They are at sea level.

Japan – Record low temperatures at 38 locations

No, snow isn't that rare there. I saw snowy pics of Rome from last winter I think. Maybe it's the first time in 25 years they have that much snow.

Here in the countryside rivers are starting to freeze over.

Canals in Venice freezing over? Bring it! It's my kind of thing, and I hope it becomes a regular occurrence . It is interesting that they're freezing over now and it was more common in centuries past.

I've noticed a loose pattern that whenever it's very mild in East/NE USA it's colder than normal in western Europe. Something in that?
