Yay, my natal city!!! Mar del Plata is where i was born and lived 19 years and i know all about MDP climate (and love it!!!)
This is a great find, deneb, cause, looking at the stats, MDP and Melbourne seem to have almost exact temps the whole year! It surprised me, cause when i read thread without seeing stats i thought "this is an easy one: MDP", i thought Melbourne was another hot Australian location and, after reading the stats, im surprised at how "cold" it actually is.
Average for Melbourne in January are: 14.3/25.9, while MDP: 14/26, almost the exact same (i love those numbers!). And in July, average for MDP is 3/13 and for Melbourne is 6/13. You know what? I think Melbourne numbers are great! It looks comfortable year round and, being honest, i preffer 6/13 (wich is almost a perfect winter, imo) than 3/13, specially in MDP, with the cold currents of the ocean, those 3c average low for the winter can feel really really cold!
So, surprinsingly, i think im gonna chose Melbourne.
Both are great oceanic climates with comfortable weather and, most important, GREAT summer weather (meaning not-hot) but Melbourne is slightly warmer in the winter (being cold still), so im gonna have to go with Melbourne, instead of with MDP.
Both are B climates to me, anyway. Maybe MDP is a B-, while Melbourne is a B.
Im surprised at the great climate Melbourne haves. Great find.
MDP for me- Wetter and a little sunnier. I have spent some time in Melbourne and found it a comfortable climate. I do remember what a cold change in summer was like though- not nice.
Both climates are in the B range for me, with mild winters and summers.
That's a typo. 12a would be an annual extreme minimum of 50-55°F.
I got the impression from the wikipedia article that each zone is defined by an annual average low, with Melbourne in the 50-55F category. Wikipedia fails again.
If it's based on extreme minimums, then Melbourne would be a 10b.

WRONG! Average January temp in Melbourne is 15.6/26.3C, average July temp is 7.1/14.2C
oh well, calm down, i took the data from the links the OP posted, so whatever.
If those you posted are the numbers, they are still not much different from what wiki says and i still chose Melbourne over Mar del Plata and still think Melbourne climate is great and its summers are very refreshing.
MDP, though Melbourne looks nice as well. I chose MDP for relatively cooler winters. I was in MDP in July 2009, during a cold spell, and I remember walking near the harbour, watching the sea lions on the docks, and feeling very cold. It was cloudy, windy and humid. And, even taking all that into account, I estimated the temp to be around 2 C (36 F) that afternoon (quite cold for an afternoon in MDP), but then when I came back to the hotel, I checked the temp on TV, and it was just 8 C (46 F)! Before checking that, I had been all excited and wishing for some snow...
Mar del Plata for me. It's more continental (cooler winters) and Melbourne has only ~2000 hours of sunshine per year? That really surprised me, imo that's too little.

I think that 2031 hours is an old incorrect reading... the current figure (correct me if I'm wrong) I think is closer to 2300-2400 hours.
