How is it possible for Wednesday to not go above 15F, but Thursday to not go below 19F, and Friday to not go above 17F?
Temperature is a continuous function of time. It's not possible for temperature to jump with an infinitely small change in time.
To be fair, I think some people interpret the "high" of as strictly the afternoon high, and "low" as strictly the overnight low that follows, regardless of what else happens in between. So it could be 19 overnight and then it drops to 17 the next afternoon.
Personally I like to interpret 'high' as the max temperature from 2-5pm and 'low' as the min temperature from 4-7am.
So it would still be a function of time, but sampled at regular ~12-hour intervals, which IMO is more intuitive when interpreting what exactly happens as time goes by.
