You'll notice that October features 1.6 days and November 1.3 days, which I daresay is higher than London in April and May. The reason for this is that there is an almost perpetual seabreeze on the coastal fringe in the true summer months, starting at 9 AM most days. Only in the hottest airmasses will a temp of 30C be reached before mid morning. In spring, stronger fronts are still present hence the seabreeze is pushed out on occasion, allowing heat to reach the coast more readily. Often spring will feature the highest temperature for the year as a result.

Oh and I should also add that when Bellambi and the like reach 30C, it usually goes well above 30C. A typical summer week featuring a westerly push might look like this:
San Francisco is far more comfortable. Sydney is too prone to hot and humid spells.
When Sydney gets hot spells, you'd crave for humidity.
Our hot spells are overly dry as they come from the desert. We rarely get 40C heat with high humidity - that is something more commonly seen in the northern part of Western Australian and Northern Territory (high humidity and hot weather) - Katherine, Wyndham....
Sydney's climate around the coast is pretty comfortable, whereas San Francisco is pretty chilly in the fog and wind. Sydney rarely gets too hot for my comfort and it never gets cold, so I'd vote for that as far more comfortable.
Sydney. SF is always cold and foggy most of the time.
