Cloudcroft, New Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mammoth Lakes, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I prefer Cloudcroft overall.

The highs in winter are about 12-15F degrees too high but other than that it looks very good. The warmest month isn't that wet and then July and August probably have quite a few thunderstorms. It's probably the closest thing the US has to a Dwb climate.

I rate Cloudcroft an A- and Mammoth Lakes a B.

Interesting battle.

A tight contest from my perspective, both have similar average annual temperatures though Mammoth Lakes is warmer in summer due to lower rainfall. Overall I prefer Cloudcroft for the higher and more consistent rainfall, the snowfall at Mammoth Lakes seems like a bit too much as well.

Ugh voted for the wrong one

On the wiki chart is precipitation just rain or the sum of rain and rain-equivalent snow?

Cloudcroft

I'm biasedI've visited Cloudcroft many times over the years.
Super nice mountain climate,
also has really nice old hotel called, "The Lodge"
Relatively mild winters for it's elevation, very nice
summers, cool nights/warm days, lots of T-storms.
If you want a change of climate, Alamogordo is just
19 miles down the road (and I do mean down the road,
like 4400ft lower) Alot hotter desert climate with
spectacular "White Sands" nearby.

It was hard for me to choose, but I'll choose Cloudcroft for cooler summer highs. Both are A+ climates for me.

Cloudcroft easily

Mammoth gets way too much snow for me.

Cloudcroft has a great climate.

Cloudcroft is where Texans go to escape the heat,
you'll see a lot of Texas license plates, in Ruidoso too.
