Thanks to 7wishes on the CT forum pointing this out...
This morning temps were a clear result of the temperatures not being able to warm up as fast where there is snowcover. Pretty neat! Clear evidence when there's a snowpack, temps dont warm so fast.
Yup, November was in the Top 10 coolest around the Northeast locations (I didnt check south of NJ). That was the last time we saw a sustained trough in the NorthEast. But November is part of fall so it didnt count for this winter. If we had those results for Dec/Jan/Feb that would be a good cold winter. Hope you're enjoying the warmer weather.
It really isn't that warm so far in January. It is running 2F above normal. Nothing to write home about. December on the other hand was 5F above normal.
I don't mind a normal winter. I don't like the below normal winters which we had December 2010-Jan 2011.

Technically still above but I agree nothing to write about.
But I'll definetly agree thats its been seasonable so far in January except for Eastern Maine
feels mild this morning. 40°F right now. Snow might melt by the end of the week (been on the ground since about Christmas)?

If I'm wrong.. I will admit it. But thats how the pattern is looking.
It's good I put "might" in there.. LOL It did last weeks. I still even have a thin layer here near the coast.
but case in point, thats about when the pattern was changing, we didnt know it yet until it finally settled in couple weeks ago.. It's settled in now... we dont have a cold pattern anymore. Im going to laugh when we see below normal temps for 2 days and people claiming the pattern changed. I need to see it for a week at least before claiming that. I need to see the PV drop. I need to see long range be more consistant! I need to see the troughs swing deep and east. Im not seeing that yet.
Can you tell the difference between my enthusiastic posts in October screaming "interesting" weather is coming, and yelling "cold" November???
Like I said.. we'll see snow (maybe the 17th) we'll see cold (maybe the 20th) but forget about sustained right now. Lets re-evaluate after the 25th.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! The cold is FINALLY coming and this time, it actually looks like an EASTERLY might make it to dear old Northern Ireland and its only 5 days away!!! WOOP WOOP.
The funny thing is, 2 days ago this wasn't showing at all and its just been constant upgrades. UKMO, GFS and ECM all going for it starting on Saturday.
I can't wait ICE DAYS, -10c, SNOW, aww the joys. 12c you can **** off out of my site BYEEEE
(sorry for the over the top nonsense, but we haven't seen a really cold spell like this since 2010, last year was mild and this year has been mild so far).
Currently 3°C and drizzly. The high was 5°C at 4 am. Big inversion under this anticyclone, like last November. Similar conditions too, as it's the sixth day without sun. November did better, with one sunless week.
At 12 pm, 3°C at ground level, -1°C at 500 m and 9°C at 1500 m:
