It can happens from late October to mid May, albeit the first snow falls on average on late November, and the latest on mid April.
However, sleet and rain is quite common here in these months too.

In a normal year we are lucky to get it at all in either January or February..

Usually i'd say between December and March. November or April would be a once in 10 year event. October/May probably once in 50 year event

In fact, the last settling snow in December here was 2010, which is an unusually long streak as even in milder winters before 2009, we had settling snow in December and even November. We last had settling snow in March this year, and that was the greatest March snow I have ever seen here - one of the best ever in any month, in fact. Before that, we had settling snow in March 2010 (both 2011 and 2012 were mild - 2012 exceptionally so, reaching 22C) and then countless instances prior - 2008 and 2006 stick out as notable (2008 had Easter snow). We also had 4cm on 4 April 2012 which melted by midday.

We had settling snow in November this year, but it was only a dusting. Still, the first November snow since 2010. Before that, I think we had snow in Nov 2008 but I really can't remember. We definitely had snow in Nov 2005 as I remember that quite well. We had falling snow in May 2010. We also had snow in May 1995. I can't remember any other instances. We had falling snow in October last year and some flakes did manage to settle but that was it. We also had snow in October 2000 IIRC. None in 2008 though, unlike areas further south.

Some March falls in recent years:

This is like the first december i've not seen lying snow at my house.

From my lifetime I remember having normally one snowfall event where it sticks to the ground and stays each year. The last couple of years we had some really cold winters which were unusual, but this year it is back to usual, this December has been very mild here, all the days have been above 7C and most around 8-11C.

I normally wouldn't expect snow in December, but possible in January or early February. From mid February onwards I start looking for warmer weather and don't want snow at all any more. (I hate cold weather, unless it snows but otherwise I prefer mild weather)

I grew up in Jersey and remember some snowfalls that were doozies (I have the home movies to prove it) I recall snow anywhere from Nov-April. My younger sisters birthday is April 16, and I remember snow on her birthday at least once. Now that I have been in Oklahoma, in 2003 we had 6 inches the week before Thanksgiving. Since then, I remember snow anywhere from Nov to Feb. I cannot recall any in March, but I lived here from 2003-2011, then I moved back to NJ. Moved back here Nov 2012. We had 4 inches 2 weeks ago.

It can snow from October through April. I remember on April 18, 2008, some areas got up to a foot of snow.

Snow is most common from December to March here (though this December was an exception).
But in fact it seems that snow in March happens here more often than in December.
It's rare to see it in November and April occuring maybe every 5-10 years.
I have never seen snow in May, but one time in October this was in 2003 and this was also the first event snow has occured here in this month. So this is probably more a once in a lifetime event.

The vast majority of our snow falls between late December and early March. But it can snow in November and April as well.
