52.2 hours to the 15th.

At this rate, this February is gonna end up being the cloudiest on record.

A shocking 52.4 hours to the 16th. Only 3 days with "zero" sunshine so far.

42 hours at Leeming after 21 days, so probably high 30s where I live. Not many parts of the country will have above-average sun this month, though just like last month it's the places down south with 200-300% of their average rainfall that are also doing best in terms of sunshine. It's been a particularly dull winter in Glasgow, I notice: 26 hours in December, 21 in January, and 22 so far in February.

You keep sun records for each individual day, don't you? When was the last time you recorded a proper sunny day (i.e. more than 75% of possible)? If we've had one here since the clocks went back then I certainly don't remember it.

79.9 hours to the 20th.

The record cloudiest February was in 1972 with 95 hours, not 120 hours as I had erroneously thought before for some reason.

We are not going to beat the record; there are 2 sunny days and 2 pcldy days in next week's forecast.

The month so far - in the British Isles

16th February was the last time.

Those sunshine hours are an approximation and not accurate, since they are from Harpur Hill weather station which is too sheltered and under-reads by 24% compared with official met office figures.

6.2 (which becomes 7.7 hours) on 2nd February 2014, and also 6.6 "hours" = 8.2 hours on 16th of February, so that would be well over 90% of the daily sunshine possible.

Anyway we're up to 39 "hours" to the 21st, which when corrected for the incorrect positioning of the station to metoffice hours, becomes 48.4 hours.

So all this time I've probably been accidentally leading people to believe Buxton is cloudier than it really is. So yeah about 50 hours sun so far this month.

In fact I am going to calculate the difference between the sunshine averages at Harpur Hill and the metoffice 1981-2010 averages and multiply the monthly totals by the percentage difference in future to get accurate numbers.

According to the met office, Buxton has an identical sunshine figure to where you live, and this year we're actually sunnier.

As of today, Chicago has seen 59% of it's possible sunshine which amounts to about 162.7 hours. Total possible is 275.7 hours for 26 days this month.
