Wow, the Norwegian league plays in summer to try and avoid that sort of weather! They already get 24 hours of daylight there so I can't imagine lying snow at this time of year happens too often. I remember watching a game on TV when Tromso were playing against an English team about 15 years ago being played in pretty bad snow which came suddenly in the second half, but that was October/November.

I can read Norwegian, btw - the away team, Brann, means 'fire' so the headline is a play on words: "Tromso put sand on the fire in 'winter war'"

The orange soccer ball suggests that it's not the first time this happened.

Reminds me of a kids rugby game a couple of years ago. They played some hillbillies on their turf, which is about 50 km/30 miles inland. The ground was rock solid frozen, and no one was in a hurry to tackle. It turned into a game of shirt pulling and passing. Very funny.
