Both at similar latitudes...Where I'm from, Carlsbad wouldn't really have a summer, but it's summer warmth extends well into October-November. Not to say Myrtle Beach has a short summer. Still, the July high is only 22C/72F, similar to London, UK. Winter is actually cooler than LA, weirdly, despite being on the coast and SOUTH of LA.
I would still pick it over Myrtle Beach over comfort. For interest, Myrtle Beach definitely beats Carlsbad, but comfort always wins out if it comes to it. The summers, while not as bad as say Galveston, Texas, are definitely on the humid, muggy side but get sun from the Bermuda High.
I'd prefer Myrtle Beach, for it's greater variety of weather conditions. Whilst Carlsbad's temperatures are more comfortable year-round, it's dry and monotonous imo.
Reluctantly, Carlsbad wins for me. It's boring but comfortable so I'll take that over the summers in SC.
