We have just had our driest May on record! That's from 62 years of data at this site, so it's a pretty big deal. Certainly a blessing for me.

However, this was not accompanied, as one might expect, by above average sunshine. The first half of the month was very gloomy (note the seven days with less than an hour's sun), but the second half was much sunnier. This resulted in a sunshine total only just above average.

Temps were a little cooler than average, mainly due to cold nights. There were nine frosts in May, a number exceeded only thrice in 58 years of records.

Overall, I give this month an 8/10 due to the record dryness.
If that's the Aero data (as in the Press) then in fact the records go back to 1943. If the Gardens site had less than 12.0mm it would be the driest on record there, data back to 1863.

The May record low is somewhat anomalous in that every other month in the Gardens record has a record low of no more than 4mm.

I rate it 3 out if 10. Very boring. As to the cloudiness, if those days had been cooler, that is, if they had been cold, then I wouldn't have minded. But they were a bit warm for May, and that combination -cloudy and not cold- is boring as hell.

Hoping for a better June.

9. Temps were hotter than usual, which is never good, but since this is my first May here, it's better than any May I've had in a long time.
