It's a nice off the beaten path tourist spot to visit, though western US / Canada scenery is more spectacular. I don't remember flights from NYC being all that expensive. Could also be nice as a very long "northeast coast" road trip.

Agreed. Still looks very nice though.
Circumnavigating Newfoundland would be a cool trip.
For fun I started looking at cruises, and I think it would be cheaper for me to go to Alaska!

F+ from me. It isn't absolutely horrible in any one aspect (which earns it a "+"). But is significantly below par in every respect. Winters are way too long. Summers are too cool and short. Precipitation is excessive. Sunshine is very low. No good features at all.

Yeah, can't argue too much with that but ...people there are friendly and scenery looks awesome,
if you live there you have embrace the climate and go snow shoeing or skiing.
Also, Cornerbrook is nearby, much bigger population and still snowy (not quite as snowy though),
milder temps year round (2c to 4c higher). I wouln't mind living there. C+

I wouldn't live there even if the climate were better. As per Wikipedia, "[Corner Brook] is the largest population centre in the province outside the Avalon Peninsula. As such, Corner Brook functions as a service centre for western and northern Newfoundland."
When the largest "service centre" for hundreds of miles around is itself under 20k pop, that says something. I don't necessarily need to live in a huge metropolis but I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere either.
