I've been browsing the BOM's forecast pages and found this:

Notice how there is a "sunny" icon for a "partly cloudy" day, while the other day labelled as partly cloudy has a more correct graphic. Then there's a day that is supposed to be "mostly dry" but has a rain icon! So which is it? This I've noticed seems to occur quite often in the BOM's forecasts.

Anyone else find things like this in their forecasts?

I do recall a day recently here in Brisbane that was forecast as "fine but mostly cloudy"
Maybe it is late in the day here, but that seems like a contradiction to me.

I cannot remember what the graphic was though...

I think the BOM regards "fine" as a day without precipitation, not necessarily sunny or even partly cloudy Personally, my definition of "fine" is atleast 5 hours of sunshine per day.

I think fine just means fair-weather, perhaps sunny intervals, no rain..

In don't think there has ever been a formal definition of "fine", or even the old nautical "fair".

In future I'll take "fine" forecasts with a grain of salt .
The day in question turned out to be almost 100% overcast btw.

BOM in Perth officially stopped using the word 'fine' in their forecasts about a year or two back in favour of more descriptive forecasts such as Sunny, Mostly Cloudy etc. 'Fine' only means they aren't forecasting rain from my experience.

Easy one; they say "storms will happen", the reality is they never do.
