One of the problems I face every winter is being forced to wear way too much clothing by my overprotective parents, especially my mother. I'm sixteen years old and she still treats me like a little girl. Today I went out with my friends and I had to wear a long sleeve shirt, a turtleneck sweater, a knee length puffy jacket, and thick waterproof coat. She also made me wear a faux fur hat, a long wool scarf, thick gloves, and winter boots. It was about thirty degrees outside, but my parents always think that cold weather gets you sick. Does anyone else have to deal being overdressed?

That seems excessive for 30 F.

Well sixteen is still technically an underage girl, they sound like my parents (although I'm nearly 25 ) but when I was 16 they were like that also. Just be patient and don't try to grow up too fast.

But yeah, I agree that amount of clothes is excessive for 30 F, sounds more like you're dressed for 0 F lol

Are you of Eastern European heritage (Svetalana sounds that way and I assume your parents may have grown up in very cold climates?) Also, in which state in the US do you live (assuming you do because of Fahrenheit)? Maybe if the place is less frequent in cold weather (hot summers) your parents freak out more when it arrives?

That could explain a lot about that...

Can't you just tell your parents that you don't feel like you are even freezing then and that would be problem solved or are they very strict?

Welcome to the forum by the way

My problem is getting the kids to wear shoes and warmer clothing. Frost on the ground, and they're heading off to school in bare feet and short sleeves.

How old are they? Barefoot seems a bit ambitious for going to school

It definitely is too much for this weather, I'm always the warmest dressed person. Did your parents keep forcing you to overdress even when you were in high school?

The youngest two are still at primary school, so don't need to wear shoes, but the oldest is at high school, and has to wear shoes.

Going barefoot to primary school is pretty common -maybe 50% in summer and 30% of kids in winter, would be in bare feet.

He lives around Miami. If you overdress there you'll get a heat stroke even in December

"Alejandro, no burritos in the living room"

"Alejandro, no gardening tools at the table please"

Well I live in South FL and I'm a weather enthusiast so I knew more about what to wear than them, so no but they were wayyyy overprotective in other aspects like going out with friends to the movies and whatnot. That age is always tricky because you're growing up but parents still see you as little or really young lol. Just be patient.

I would highly recommend telling them that it's excessive though or that you feel hot with all those clothes.
