Bjoernoya with 591 hours is the dullest location I am aware of, though nobody lives there. Also that London December allegedly with no sun was in 1890, but it was more likely 0.something hours. Personally I find the non smog-affected and recorded with modern equipment 36 minutes in Cape Wrath, northwest Scotland, in January 1983 more impressive.

The dullest summer month on average in % terms is presumably Bjornoeya in July - 79.4 hours out of a possible 744, so just under 11%. I'm sure a lot of northern European locations below the Arctic circle get worse than that in December though.

Also, the Lofoten islands deserve a mention for being the most northerly place not to have a single month average below freezing (66-67N if I remember rightly). The lowest-latitude lowland place to have a month below freezing is in China somewhere around 34N, but I can't remember the name.

Oklahoma City had a high of 83 and low of 17 on 11/11/1911, still the record high and low for the date - anybody know of a bigger swing in one day?

Loma, Montana, though the two temperatures weren't in a single day but within 24 hours. 9 AM local time Jan 14, 1972 was -54°F. 8 AM the next day it was 49°F, so a 103°F rise.

Holy ****! That's a bigger range in one day that probably most places on Earth have ever seen in history! Another record from that article: the snowiest season on record was 1,140 inches at Mt. Baker, WA in 1999.

Well at least maritime or low-latitude places. My hometown was around 110°F.

Interestingly, that day had Loma's coldest temperature on record:

LOMA 1 WNW, MONTANA Period of Record General Climate Summary - Temperature

I've always wondered if there's another snowier mountain than Mt. Baker but has no weather station. BC coast range up into SE Alaska, Japanese and New Zealand mountains are all possibilities.

There's a list on Wiki of just what we are looking for: List of weather records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One record not on there is the longest-lasting rainbow, which was six hours in Wetherby, Yorkshire, on 14 March 1994. Apart from the dubious sunless London December it's probably the only weather record England can claim. I wonder which was the worst weather event in terms of fatalities? The 15,000 dead in the French heatwave in 2003 would be up there, though it's debatable how many of those were a direct consequence.

The Kaibab Plateau, at the 36th parallel, might be the lowest-latitude location that averages over 100 inches of snow per season. Bright Angel Ranger Station averages 136 inches. Of course I'm talking about places that have snowfall records. There are probably some places even close to the equator that average 100+ inches.

As for the deadliest weather events, the 1931 China Floods caused 145 000-4 000 000 fatalities. Another contender is the 1970 Bhola Cyclone, with 300 000-500 000 fatalities.
