Wild weather ahead for the next couple of days, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for tonight and a Severe Weather Warning for tomorrow. Going by the synoptic chart you'd think it was mid-winter.

Meanwhile there'll be record heat near 45C in the inland eastern parts of the country.

I knew it! Didn't even hit 20 C! Plus we were overcast with thick high cloud all day long. MetService are idiots.

Plenty of colder nights here during November but the days seem warm.

The extra sun and lower rainfall, conspire to make it feel like summer started a month ago.

Take it up with them then - you may find the technical difficulties in forecasting your region are not to be sneezed at. Blue Skies claims more accuracy but also concedes nobody has done an independent audit.

I saw a forecast on SKY News a day or two ago showing Christchurch expecting 27C, and just about all of the North Island at or under 20C, somewhat of an anomaly so am not surprised by this.

Looks like a fairly savage end to this week and spring on Friday, before Saturday sizzles for the start of summer.

PS: There's a NZ forum that has the Blue Skies owner as a prominent member and moderator. There's no comment claiming Blue Skies got yesterday right, and normally he and his followers are not slow to score points off MetService. My inference is that his forecast was wrong as well.

50C/122F here today..... in the tunnel house. I forget to open the vents this morning.

Just had a swim at the beach, with water temps at a very pleasant 24C/75F. A fierce sun today.
