This past Saturday night (OK, just after midnight Sunday), I was driving home from Atlanta, and as I left the exurban fringe and entered the rural darkness, I noticed a big orange moon staring at me as I drove the rest of the way down the highway. Ever since I was a child, I've hated seeing an orange or red moon on the horizon, because it makes me think about the end of the world or bad omens. It's worse if it's full, near-full, or partially covered by clouds, and even worse if I'm in a rural area, or moving from an urban area to a rural area like I was that night. For some odd reason, seeing it then makes me feel vulnerable.

Does anybody else get as creeped out by a red or orange moon as I do?

No. They're way cool -unless they are the bushfire variety.

I like them, same with red/orange clouds when the sun is low in the sky.

I love them and my feelings upon seeing it coudn't be further from yours. I get a warm, almost euphoric feeling seeing a huge orange moon on the horizon. Just think of Neil Armstrong landing up on there and you'll feel better.

Yeah, an inanimate rock in space being refracted by the atmosphere. Scary shit man.

Nope. I wish I had my old telescope to look at it, though

No, I'm not bothered by it, but might be if I weren't a Christian.

I'm not bothered by it. If anything I like creepy-looking moons.
