It's about time. I guess it official now. ..

According to the latest statistics from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, October 2012 ended the 16-month streak of above-average monthly temperatures for the contiguous Unites States, with an average temperature of 53.9° Fahrenheit, 0.3° Fahrenheit below the long-term average.

The maps above show where October 2012 (top) and year-to-date (bottom) temperatures were different from the 1981–2010 average across the contiguous United States. Shades of red indicate temperatures up to 5° Fahrenheit warmer than average, and shades of blue indicate temperatures up to 5° Fahrenheit cooler than average—the darker the color, the larger the difference from average temperature.

As the shades of blue on the upper map indicate, below-average temperatures stretched from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico during October, with 19 states having monthly temperatures below their 20th-century averages. The Southwest and the Northeast were the only two areas of the country with above-average temperatures.

Warm streak didn't end here in the Northeast though, but so far this month has been pretty chilly so it should end now even for us. Been like 20 months since there was a below average month here.

Yeah, here too. I think we're at 19 in a row but November will finally break that though. You can see where the cold settled down in the U.S in October. The pattern changed on a dime last month and is continuing through November. The question is.. will the trough setup continue where its at or shift east now.

It sure didn't end here in the Rockies, either. Over the past 24 months we have had only 1 months that were not ABOVE or MUCH ABOVE normal here in Colorado. Every little two day blip of cold air is immediately followed by 10-14 days of MUCH ABOVE normal temperatures. This has been the pattern for some time now.

From The Weather Underground

The last time Earth had a below-average October global temperature was in 1976, and the last below-average month of any kind was February 1985. Global satellite-measured temperatures in October 2012 for the lowest 8 km of the atmosphere were 7th or 2nd warmest in the 34-year record, according to Remote Sensing Systems and the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH), respectively. Wunderground's weather historian, Christopher C. Burt, has a comprehensive post on the notable weather events of October 2012 in his October 2012 Global Weather Extremes Summary.

Don't be fooled, it is not getting cooler, it is getting warmer, and there is no reason to think that this winter will be anything other than another blowtorch event.

So, my post is so egregious as to warrant BIG BLACK ARROWS?

I'll just wait and see if the Moderators remove it.
