Wow that looks very uncomfortable in BA, very steamy!!

I bet Sophie is struggling, in fact I'd be surprised if she's still alive

Having been in Murchison on a few hot days, there is generally little or no wind when it's hot, unlike other places in the South Island.
Could check later ... Murchison is consistent with some pretty high readings in the appropriate conditions.

Edit: Murchison record high is 36.8C on 4 February 2005 (on the same day, Alexandra recorded its record high of 38.7C).

There are some records for Tapawera, 1979-1987. Record high 32.9C.

Perhaps she is in Mar del Plata with her parents for Christmas Eve.

In MPD, temp is now 24.4 C with a storm that I heard is quite big.

BA looks pretty sweltering right now -- 32 C with 27 C dew point. Next few days look lovely though (going by Google's forecast).

By contrast, we're sitting on 20 C with overcast skies and cold wind on this Xmas afternoon.

The last week has been crap as well and the next looks even worse with heavy rain and strong, cold southerlies tomorrow.

Summer ended on the 17th as far as I'm concerned.

Premature as usual I predict. I note that according to Climate Explorer maps at least, your sun to 23rd is at least 25% above normal, temps a little up and rainfall a little down.

Models are starting to pick a massive heat event for southern/southeast Australia just after New Years. GFS is predicting 850hpa temps to reach 30C over northern Victoria around the 5th, which would see temps anywhere around 45-48°C assuming clear skies.

Other models showing the 5840 line extending down past Adelaide and even higher thickness further north, somewhere could well see 50C. Really really hope it doesnt downgrade

10 day weather forecast from The Weather Channel for northwestern Victoria starting to line up with the models:
