I came back to BA from Santiago on Wednesday. Yes, Sophie, this is unbearable. 36.8 C right now. I'm longing for the storm to come, to cool things down.

Today it was a nice 27c sunny day and starting tomorrow temps are gonna be back on summer: tomorrow its gonna be 32c and 35c are forecasted to mond, tuesday and wednesday! So lucky for you im sure its gonna be much more nicer there!

enjoy Santiago
I will be envying you on monday
Actually I think that Jan 2012 and, to a lesser extent, Jan 2011, were exceptions. January tends to be more like the current January, with heatwaves interrupted by cold air masses, bringing some relief for a while. That is my impression based on my memories of all the Januaries I've gone through in this city.

As to Santiago de Chile, you would've liked it there, especially one morning when I woke up, I had to put on a light jacket because it was quite cool and cloudy (then the sly cleared in the afternoon). That morning the temp was like 14-15 C more or less, at 9 or 10 AM. That day the high was just 25 C. All the other days the highs were around 30 C.

In Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, I was there one afternoon with no more than 20 C and cloudy skies. Really nice.

awful!

there was supposed to be a big storm today, that will cool everything off, but the day has been sunny since the morning and no sign of any storm in the sky

It's a funny day today. A cool, foggy start but clear sky now. Should start to warm up quite quickly if only the sou'wester dies down -- only just cracked 20 C at 11:15 AM. Doubtful we'll see anywhere near the 29 C forecast though and I haven't yet decided if it's worth the trip to the beach.
