Have you ever seen this firsthand? If so, for what cities?

No falsification of climate info, but there's trend to replace sunshine hours by % of possible for US cities.

Yes. Wiki gives 2190 hours of sunshine for Melbourne, when in reality it is 2370 hours. When I change it, the tossers change it back almost immediately. The temp data is wrong aswell.

I remember it being around 2700 at one point.

Not sure exactly what the guidelines are for editing and changing info but I am sure they need fool proof "official" sources. I dont use Wiki for weather but I hope there's some kind of quality controlled or ligit sources.
How often do they update with changes to weather? Thats the other thing we need to figure out.

Here's a link to their guidelines. Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Is this a widespread problem? I personally haven't seen outright falsification. What I do find very often are data with no sources linked, or unreliable data, even for well-known cities.

Seen it many times, once a guy removed 5 degrees every month for Honolulu.

Something which is irritating as well is when you update to 1981-2010 normals and people revert it instantly to 1971-2000.

The only problem I've seen is the percentage-based sunshine instead of sunshine hours. I could also say that out-of-date information is another problem, but in most of those cases newer data isn't available, and the fact that it came from 1961-1990 is usually noted. If you're not sure about Wikipedia's temperature data, just check the sources and cross-check it with other websites. It's usually correct.

Years ago, when Wiki came out and had climate data it was always incorrect; Several times I tried to change it for different cities...and it would go right back. I supplied Govt Weather links to back up the data I corrected, yet it still would go right back. I just gave up.

I would be highly suspect of climate data I see on Wiki, I think there is a Chamber of Commerce issue going on (if the city is in ski country, they bump up thier seasonal snow data....a summer beach town bumps up their summer temps....a winter desert resort bumps up their days of sunshine ....etc). It's almost as if there is a person on the wiki page of any city that edits out undesirable information about any city. Notice, now how each cities crime stats change by the week?

I would take anything on Wiki with a pound of salt.
