Doesn't surprise, there's a lot of NYC influence down here, and whenever people down here mention visiting somewhere else, it's nearly always NYC or L.A. other places are too "boring" I've even heard people down here call the likes of Chicago "boring"!!! Unbelievable.
It's always odd how such large, liberal and "tolerant" cities like Miami or NYC can be so insular. Goes to show ignorance extends well beyond conservative small towns.
Sounds similar to London. They tend to be more knowledgeable about the world outside of the UK but rather clueless about the UK itself outside of London.
Don't have to shovel millions of annoying snowbirds and tourists either that clog up the highways here driving 20 MPH under the speed limit and have no idea where things are even though they spend half the year here.
Indianapolis did not experience a white Christmas this year; I heard that Indianapolis did have a grey, gloomy and foggy Christmas this year, the last Christmas that was a white Christmas in Indy was in 2013; the last white Christmas in Fort Worth, Texas occurred in 2012.
Winters in my area are cold and statistically some 8 Christmases out of 10 in my area area white.
Estonian weather service revealed recently some closer statistics about the Christmas Eve snow pack of period 1961-1992 and according to it on South-East Estonian uplands (and in northeast) snow has been on ground on 83% of the Christmas Eves, in Tallinn 50% and in westernmost islands of Estonia 13% of the Eves. The winter here less snowy and a bit milder and than in the uplands, thus my percentage would be perhaps about 70.
In this year there was no snow here on christmas days. The deepest snowpack in my nearest station was in 2001 - 29cm.

The thing about the 1961-1990 period is that atleast in Sweden, that's pretty much exactly the coldest 30 years of the last 100 or so years, so the actual average should be a much lesser percent.
I'm not a global warming sceptic, but I'm pretty sure SMHI enjoys using that data period to dramatize global warming

No, they do it because they are morons and lazy. DMI released their 1971-2000 normals like a year ago. In 2020 SMHI will release their 81-10 normals unless you don't spam them!
i sent a complaint to their customer service. their "excuse" was that they started up many stations in the mid 90s, and that they therefore prefer to wait untill the 91-20 period to get complete normals. nowadays, it's sweden, norway and a bunch of banana republics that still haven't published them.
