To Australia from Glasgow was 7 hours to Dubai. 7 hours to Singapore. 7 hours to Melbourne. We've also done 14 hours from Melbourne to Dubai then 7 to Glasgow. Pure hell w/o an overnight or two somewhere.

Oh god how did you cope 14 hours, 6.5 hours was hell for me.

I think going to Australia is really bearable if you just split it up into sectors and stay in places for like 2 days between those sectors, it also helps with the timezones.

The other alternative is business class but for that you either have a ton of money or enough airmiles to upgrade. Then it's quite a pleasant trip with awesome food, huge tv screen on the seatback, seats that lie flat so you sleep well. Emirates is the very best.

Boston was really great, I loved it. Boston had a very different feel with the old style buildings. You know we was suppose to also go to NYC but we couldn't afford it. Also I think we paid in advance like maybe 10 months or something. The hotel wasn't as exspensive as I thought it would but it still took up a big chunk.

Boston is good for historic stuff. I lived there as a kid and haven't been back since I was 8 so it's a future trip. Did you go to Plimoth Plantation near Plymouth?

The thing is, now a days your actually better off booking it like a month or two before because the prices are more expensive further away.

For an island we get big contrasts.

Nearly every single summer at least once it is 13c in the hebridies and 30c plus in london.

I don't think most people are surprised by the contrasts. The distance from the top end of the UK to Lands End is similar to the distance from where I live to Hilton Head Island, SC.

Although I just checked these two locations and it is surprising how temps sometimes can be close. I'm sure at other times it is not this close though.

When I say contrasts I mean current temperatures across the country.

For example in the winter, sometimes it can be like -18c at 9am up in altnaharra, but down in plymouth it can be 10 or 11c due to a warm front.

We do get contrasts in daytime temperatures, sometimes it can be -3c and then 20c in the afternoon but most years our biggest range is like 18c.
