I've been to both in winter. I was in London one year in January and one year in February. I easily choose London. It is NOT pouring down rain every day, that is a myth. It was cold, but not brutally so like it can get around here.

The only thing I noticed is my hands were always cold from the dampness in the air, and how puddles of water never seem to dry up even though it hadn't rained. Puddles around here after rain dry up in one day in winter. Sun seemed much higher in the sky when returning as well.

Still choose London though for the lack of snow and overall mildness compared to here.

I think I'll go with NYC. London winters aren't that much milder to offset the gloominess and the darkness.

The sun is much lower in the sky, so it's no surprise that it has far less energy and it can remain damp all day with the sun shining brightly, the sun often has no relevance to the temperature, the maximum temperature could be at 1am and the minimum at 10am.

Taken midday at Cambridge (52 degrees north):

The low sun is the only reminder of how far north we actually are.

Both are pretty bad for a lover of cold and snow, but NYC is colder than London, so I'll choose NYC.

NYC by a mile. More sunshine, more snow, more interesting.

16 snowy days in London vs 11.5 for NYC?

I bet NYC gets more snowy days than London. That 16 seems too much for London. I would have expected something like 4 days or so (BTW, 4 days is the amount of snow days for a place like Madrid, so many miles south).
