Winter: November 30th - February 23rd
Spring: February 24th - May 21st
Summer: May 22nd - September 23rd
Autumn: September 24th - November 29th

Of course, it has seemed to be warmer in recent years, and these are averages. An individual day can (and often does) have a high temperature in another season's range. For instance, May 4, 2012 (the day I got my first car) was a spring day, but it had a high of 87 F.
Can you get an average winter maximum in summer though? There was a day here last December of 3.5 -13.7C/38-56F for the temp range. August temps.

What sort of car did you get?

Some days we do get a respite from the heat and highs can be in the 70s F (21-27 C), or even 60s. On September 6, 2011 the high temperature was 59 F and low was 56 F, which is more akin to late November. So we can get summer chill, it doesn't happen very often here.

I got a 2008 Honda Accord, by the way . I couldn't be happier!

Seasons here are just divided by calendar months. They mostly work with our climate though I find March to basically be just another summer month as it is still dry and is slightly warmer than December. The official definition of a heatwave is 3 days over 35C / 95F here, the standard varies depending on where you are in Australia though and BOM doesn't issue heat advisories/warnings.

Summer: Dec-Feb
Autumn: Mar-May
Winter: Jun-Aug
Spring: Sep-Nov

The indigenous Noongar people of the area traditionally divide the year into 6 seasons, they work better for this climate imo.

Birak (Dec/Jan): Hot and dry with afternoon southwesterly seabreezes.
Bunuru (Feb/Mar): Hot and dry with easterlies prevailing.
Djeran (Apr/May): Cooler, with rain becoming more frequent. Light winds.
Makuru (Jun/Jul): Cold and wet with westerly gales.
Djilba (Aug/Sep): Still cool but less wet.
Kambarang (Oct/Nov): Significantly warmer with increasing dry periods.

Ok. I'm a bit surprised that very few countries have any stricter definitions than just the calendar. Of course we use the same three-month division here as well, but to say early March is spring and late November autumn, is perhaps a bit over the top.

Thanks for your answers, anyway.

The end/beginning of seasons here mostly overlaps with solstices and equinoxes.
Here, the winter lasts from 23 December to 23 March.
The spring lasts from 23 March to 23 June.
The summer lasts from 23 June to 23 September.
The autumn lasts from 23 September to 23 December.
I feel weird seeing that seasons everywhere else start about a month before mine.

Don't know about heatwaves though. Probably when it rises above 32c for at least three days in a row.

We (Finland) are gonna use these definitions for a 'heatwave'.

5 consecutive days with max above 25.1C = heatwave
14 consecutive days with max above 25.1C = prolonged heatwave
21 consecutive days with max above 25.1C = exceptional heatwave (max 1/10 possibility)
3 consecutive days with max above 30.0C = tough heatwave
5 consecutive days with max above 30.0C = severe heatwave.

Had none of those this year....... yet. Fell one day short in Turku. And also fell one day short in Lapland of the tough one.

We already had 2 exceptional heatwaves this century, so the odds aren't really in our favor.

Summer- highs above 80 F on a regular basis and lows above 55 F on a regular basis. NO RAIN; maybe one light rain the entire summer if we're lucky. It's totally normal for us not to get a single drop from June through August.

Winter- highs in the 50s or very low 60s F most of the time; about 2 or 3 rainy days each week. Lows around 45 F during rain events but can get down to 30 F during cold, dry spells. Frost during dry spells but when it rains, it NEVER gets cold enough to snow (snow at sea level is a once in a lifetime event here). Occasional warm spells of 70 F.

Spring and Fall- Highs ranging from 50 to 85 F, Lows ranging from 30 F to 60 F; rain about once a week in early spring and late fall and rain once every two to three weeks in early fall and late spring. Maybe one thunderstorm in a typical spring or fall if we're lucky.

Our weather is soooooooooo boring that I suspect that our local weather forecasters use cut and paste for each week's forecast. Which is why I resort to creating whimsical fictional climates and annoying certain posters by creating polls asking people to rate them .

Winter: Daily temperature between 5º and 15º depending if it is a cold winter day or a warm one, during the night temperature is around 2º or 3º sometimes below 0. We don't have snow in my town unfortunately. Maybe 1 or 2 times a year.

Spring: During the day around 20º hot days it can raise to 35º but we can have sudden rains or winds, it is the most crazy season, nights are a bit cold, maybe 10º

Summer: Hot days between 30º and 45º also very dry, rarely storms or rain, nights are warm around 25-30º

Autumn: More or less like spring, sometimes even better lol, but I would say between 10º and 20º, nights are close to be cold.

I don't know how many degrees do we need to have a heat wave, I think more than 40º during 4 or 5 days.
