Whoops, I genuinely thought it was all 31 days. I even put 31 days, specifically stating from 31 January to 1 January. Must have copied incorrectly onto Excel.

For Helsinki, the averages are mean max -3.1C mean -5.9C mean min -9.4C, with the highest being 3.0C (Helsinki Vantaa). The averages for the other stations are correct, but the absolute max in Stockholm was indeed 5.5C on 2 January, max snow depth 32 cm.

All data is from ogimet.com

From Hyslop Field a few miles north of Corvallis, OR:

Average Max was 41.3 (5.2); 5.1 (about 2.8) degrees below standard
Average Min was 30.9 (-0.6); 2.7 ( ~ 1.5) below Standard
Total rainfall was 1.77 inches (about 45 or so mm); 4.75 inches (or around 120mm) below average.

January was a very dry and chilly month. Our daytime high temperatures were severely depressed due to an unusually lengthy spell of high pressure. I don't have barometric figures for Corvallis but sea level pressures reached 1070 in Portland during this episode and that's almost unheard of. This dome of high pressure created an air inversion on steroids and we ended up with 14 straight days of continuois fog that chopped visibilities down to less than a eighth of a mile (200 meters). In that entire time temperatures ranged from 23 (-5) to 37 (~4.6).

The highest temperature of the month was 56 (13.3) on the 8th; the bottom was 23 on the 13th

Though we had nearly no sun during the month we also has 18 days without any measurable rain and the wettest day we had only managed 0.34 inches. A whopping 9 mm.

Fog, drought, and penetrating cold were the signature features for the month and the gloom during our foggy stretch was enough to drive a Grand Banks fishermen nuts. Air quality got pretty bad, too and those with respiratory disorders had a dicey time of it managing their health toward the end.

I think the previous stats were from Gardermoen, so they might be a bit different. Like there's always a difference between Helsinki Kaisaniemi (downtown) and Helsinki-Vantaa (airport), or Harmaja (lighthouse).

It is indeed Gardermoen, I chose it to keep in line with Vantaa and Bromma (data for the other Helsinki stations cannot be seen on ogimet for some odd reason, and it seems unfair to compare Stockholm Observatory to Vantaa).

It's a copyright issue, a juridical struggle all government-funded agencies battle at the moment. Hopefully the data is released for all stations as public data in June this year. No guarantee they will be available abroad, though. That's the reason.

When comparing the Ogimet and Meteociel data with the official FMI data from December, both were mainly correct, but I noted some weird exeptions. Like Meteociel put a high of 2C someday, when the actual was -1.7C. Or Ogimet had a low of -10 something, when it in reality was -7 something. Ogimet was the more accurate as a whole, even if I find historical data from the recent years to be very accurate on Meteociel.

Motueka NZ 41.06S 8M asl

Average minimum- 9.6C/49F (-3.4C/7F)

Average maximum- 24.6C/76F (+1.4C)

Rainfall- 117mm/4.8 inches (+33mm/1.2 inches) on 4 days

Biggest 1 day fall 96mm/3.9 inches, although I recorded 133mm/5.4 inches at my place.

Sunshine- 306 hours (+39 hours)

Highest daily range 8.8C-29.8C/47F-86F

Lowest daily range 7.5C-14.5C/46F-59F

A nice sunny summer month with generally settled conditions although, nights were cooler than average by quite a margin. Sea and river temps have remained consistently high, which has been good. There was one day with a reasonable fall of snow down to about the 1300m/4000ft level. Also one day with big rain totals in the back country - the river rose 4-5 metres/12-15 ft in a few hours.
