The forecast for next Tuesday (not this coming Tuesday) is 47 F. And it's sad when I'm considering this 47 F in late March to be very warm. But that's what happens when the March is as cold as this one is.

Graph I made for Windsor Locks, CT (northern CT) March Temp comparison to last year..

I think the lows are more interesting even though they havent been extremely below normal. Anything else you see?

The coldest temperatures of month are now? We're going backwards!

Mostly what I get out of the graph is just irritation on how much better things were. Somehow I thought it could happen again.

Here's a PERFECT example why I love winter weather and how it keeps things interesting.

Latest NAM sounding for northern CT. Great time to look at vertical profiles in this storm setup we have tomorrow since a warm layer is getting involved.

This is Tuesday 2pm timeframe. Notice there is a portion of the lines(temps/dewpoint) that goes above freezing. (diagnol white line)

Question is, is the warm layer enough to melt everything? Here it is not. It's just a small layer of melting, so this would be sleet falling at this hour. So basically its snowing from way up above, hits this small warm layer above freezing, partial snow melts, then as it falls it enters below freezing layer again and refreezes into pellets on the way down to surface.

Sleet also causes evap cooling so a change back and forth to snow is possible as it keeps the column cool. Fascinating.
Soundings from ESRL/GSD

Local ski resort may open up next weekend, which is notably late. If they didn't stop blowing snow a few weeks ago (presumably unprofitable at this point), they probably could have stayed open until April.
