That video: -> -> ->

Might turn out to be the coldest March in 50 years here, if the forecast for the rest of the month turns out to be correct. Was already the gloomiest winter in 50 years, so what a start to the year.

For compensation, I'd like a April-May as in 1993. Started a bit dull, then *bang* from 4C to 22C in less than a week. And May was like an average June. In fact, it was warmer than June 1993.

The snow and the wind are great. I like the video . The conditions aren't Spring-like, but an extended winter is just awesome.

Some of you know about the NAO now. Some about the PNA...

I suggest you take a look into the AO now. Because whats happening doesnt happen often.
CPC - Teleconnections: Arctic Oscillation

The top 5 negative AO days were...

January 15, 1977: -7.433
January 16, 1977: -7.331
January 14, 1977: -7.311
January 13, 1977: -6.52
March 5, 1970: -6.365

We are currently near 6.

It was brought to my attention that in 1977 that month The Chesapeake Bay froze over solid and many in the east went to a four day work week to conserve energy with conditions so cold.

Hardiness Zone Map since we're getting to that time of year. I'm in 6b.

This year is one of those years we have to worry about late frosts in April/May so be careful planting.

You can search by zip code here to see what zone you're in. http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/
