Both horrible!
but I would go for Yakutsk.... It actually gets nicer summers than what we get here in UK. so at least they get some kind of relief from the cold, while Esperanza cant

So you like bitter freezing cold? no thanks I'll go with stable Esperanza Base Yakutsk continental climate is too scary!

They're almost no plants growing in Esperanza Base area, unlike Yakutsk

Yakutsk, no question.
Though both are horrible, nothing is worse to me than a summerless climate. And Yakutsk is much sunnier I presume.

Going by the average temperature, I'd choose Esperanza. It actually has rather nice (but still quite cold) winters, but I can't ignore the gross, unacceptable weather they get in summer.
At least, Yakutsk's climate is "interesting".

I can't vote on this one because I don't know how extreme brutal cold feels like and whether it would be worth Yakutsk's brutal winters in exchange for a pleasant shorts and t summer. I guess it would also depend on the windchills at Esperanza Base as well.....
Undecided. If someone can send me a plane ticket and hotel to Fairbanks or even Fargo or Minneapolis next January for a week, I'll come back and vote in this poll. I know it won't be as cold as Yakutsk but if I can experience -20 F, it would give me a better idea of what -40 feels like.

I gotta go with Yakutsk here. I like the variation and how "extreme" the climate is. It's gotta have some of the highest temperature ranges of any city on Earth.
Great poll, BTW.

Yakutsk because it has variety.
