Weather headlines is very subjective based it's location. Here are three news stories- pick the one that you think it's the biggest headline for it's area. This poll will be best answered by Americans who've lived in California, The Deep South, and The Midwest but everyone is welcome to comment.

1) Chicago: Blizzard drops 1-2 feet of snow, 60 MPH wind gusts, strands people on highways, causes power outages, etc.

2) Miami: Category 2 Hurricane hits bringing winds of 95 MPH with local gusts up to 110 MPH as well as 8 inches of rain in a single day. Windspread flooding and wind damage along with massive power outages. Trailers were blown away, trees were knocked down causing major property damage. Many homes on the coast are totally destroyed.

3) Los Angeles: Light showers fall in the L.A Basin bringing 0.25 inches of rain reported at the LA airport. People were glued to their windows to watch the rare phenomenon of "water falling out of the sky." Tons of accidents on freeways due to lack of experience driving in rain. People facebook and twitter "OMG- RAIN!" and "WHAT A STORM!"....the rain is the talk of the town for a week afterwards...

While their choice is entertaining, Los Angeles gets showers in the winters multiple times. Category 2 hurricanes hitting Miami don't happen that frequently, last one was Hurricane Andrew. A category 2 hurricane is more destructive than a blizzard, and Chicago gets them more often so I choose hurrican hitting Miami.

its not like it doesnt rain in LA, it does rain, its a myth that it never rains there lol

a hurricane would obviously get the most attentions, as the are the most dangerous

Ok- this poll, as is, is a little bit of satire on L.A.

What if I downgraded the hurricane in Miami to a category 1 and upgraded the blizzard in Chicago to a superblizzard dropping 3 FEET of snow?

And I changed the Los Angeles event to a thunderstorm from monsoonal moisture dropping an INCH OF RAIN in AUGUST....
Rain in L.A. in summer is rare but they have occasionally gotten monsoonal moisture from the Southwest but it usually amounts to either sprinkles or rainless thunder.

Then would the 3 events complete neck and neck?

How about a mega thunderstorm with a tornado in Los Angeles?

I actually think the Blizzard is a bigger news story than a Hurricane hitting Miami. Blizzards may be common in the Midwest but those storms typically cover a large area of North America. If the blizzard was strong and dumped alot of snow, the Blizzard will be a big new story but if it was just a normal blizzard then I'll go with the Hurricane.

Hurricane - Chicago gets a blizzard almost every winter, while Miami usually goes 5-10 years without a Cat 2 hurricane. Plus the hurricane is far more dangerous than the blizzard. Chicago is adapted to snow pretty well.
