Currently there are thunderstorms with lightnings in some Balkan countries. I'd like to know which countries are more or less prone to sprig and summer lighntings or/and thunderstorms in general and which ones are less prone to them? We often lack true clear spring days and it's always raining or with thunderstorms and then the summer oppressive heat comes right afterwards. Clear, sunny days between 15 and 25 C are getting rarer in spring and summer here.
This lightning map gives you an idea where most thunderstorms occur. The Mediterranean gets some storms but generally speaking Europe doesn't have big thunderstorms as you would find elsewhere

Thanks, I appreciate it. Well for my personal liking Bulgaria is already at the too many thunderstorms level. I don't mind rain without storms/lightnings that much, it's the storms and lightnings that I dread. Not only that is followed by opressive summer heat but the winters can get too cold and we're an earthquake-prone zone to boot.
Too bad to see it's a Balkan-wide issue plus Italy, French Mediterranean coast up to Barcelona. The southern tip of Andalusia around Gibraltar and the Algarve seem less prone to them. Prague area seems less prone on the map and while I do remember some storms with lightnings while living there Sofia gets more of them indeed. Don't know about Athens, it looks to be bordering on a less prone area, so maybe it gets less thunderstorms than Sofia. But again the heat there is summer puts me off. I didn't know most of the USA, Southeast Asia and Africa are that bad, I guess not for me to live there long-term. Also the Canary islands and Madeira look promising.
We do get them and we get intense rainfall events, but i guess compared to someone living in the US south we don't get much of them at all.
It depends on the year also, this year we haven't seen much yet because we went straight from typical mild spring weather to summer heat without the stormy period in between.

Anywhere where there is a clash of air masses and high humidity/dew point levels will see big thunderstorms. The US Midwest has some of the most intense thunderstorms on earth.
Just last night we had a storm cell in the Chicago suburbs that produced 150 lightning strikes in 5 minutes!

In general Dinaric region of western Balkans is prone to thunderstorms for European standards.
