Paris is the best of the bunch, IMO.

It's not called subtropical for nothing! I'm impressed by the number of months that don't go below 20°C, or barely. Not bad for the latitude.

About the city choice, I guess the panel is more interesting as it is, as Lille is basically a cooler version of Paris while Marseille (variable, dry) and Nice (stable, more humid) seem to differ more.

As for August 2003, I prefer Lyon's version. Only slightly cooler mean temp, but less dry (precipitation-wise) and more variable. Subpar sleeping conditions though given the general lack of AC (and sea) in Lyon:

^^^ exchange the min temps from the first and second half and you get a spectacular, yet comfortable heat festival. I'd rather have the 15-20°C lows from the second half accompany the scorching days from the first, while coupling the warmer nights of the first with the milder days from the second. 16/39°C & 23/33°C would be far superior to me than 23/39°C (too hot overall; a nighttime cooldown would be welcome here) and 16/32°C (kinda coolish morning and evening and not enough "oven heat" in the daytime to appreciate it).
Plus 16/39°C would most likely feel "lighter" with lower dew points. I've never experienced such a wide range at high temperatures btw. I've experienced 0/20°C and 10/30°C but never say 15/40°C. Getting off topic here...

Lyon is the best of those. The best city climatewise in France would be Strasbourg. All are lacking proper winters, and Marseille is a bit warm in summer.

Grenoble is great as well.

Toulouse is perfect, french climates are good, apart from areas above 1000meters, all that area around Brest and around the manche canal
