I don't think it's that simple. Temps of 1 or 2C with rain aren't uncommon and freezing rain happens once or twice a winter. Minimum temps aren't that much different than where you live and would actually be colder here at the distance you live from the sea - there are 39 air frosts here a year and that number climbs quickly just a few kms inland. Places with winter minimum temps warmer than here (Nice for example), see snow much more frequently. It's only snowed here three times since 1880 and that includes the times that it lay. The maximum was an inch in 1939.

Well actually my average minimum is about 0.8c on the coldest month. Yours is 1.6c.

Freezing rain rarely occurs here maybe once every 7 years or something. Ice days occur sometimes 4 years in a row and sometimes every 2 years. Thats why I find it so odd that you are getting freezing rain. Does this freezing rain occur above freezing?

You mention how its freezing outside above 0c maybe thats why. I want a recording the next time you get freezing rain to see it.

That 1.6C is for Nelson. It's 1.1C here, but both of these are only a very short distance from the sea. At the same distance inland, as what you live, it would be colder than your temp of 0.8C.

The 1 or 2C with rain is separate from the freezing rain. The freezing rain happens below OC, around -3C last time. I will get some photos next time.

10.1c at 12:11. Apparently it's almost summer!

My brother has gone to Dortmund for a job interview and he text me just saying he's there and it's bloody freezing! I had a quick look and it's only 6c there! That's colder than an average January day here!

What the hell is going on in Europe, it's beyond a joke now.

But if your record low is -7c how can it be -3c and raining. Thats like -16c and raining here.
