This was definitely a month of two halves. The first half was wet and cloudy. Up until the 15th, 12 of the 15 days had some precipitation and only 5.6 hours/day of sunshine on average. Also 91.6mm of rain fell, or 87.6% of the monthly total.
On the 17th, the winds largely came from the west and settled, sunnier conditions prevailed with a good run since the 19th of almost clear days .
Note that three days worth of minimum and maximum temperatures are missing (3rd quarter of the month). Not sure what is going on here with BOM as it is the second time this year (and prior to that I cannot visually see missing days going back in my daily data).
Rainfall yet again, for the fourth month running, exceeded the monthly average. However the index value of 120 suggests the total was only 20% more than the mean. Sunshine, at 229 hours, was marginally above the average of 221 hours.

Dry, and otherwise close to average, though that's not telling the whole story. The first few days were more or less winter, with the high of 2C on the 4th being one of the coldest April days on record, then a long run of above-average temperatures with plenty of sun from the 14th to 25th. Because of the very cold March, some of the oak and horse chestnut trees are still bare, which I suspect is the first time they have been bare this late in decades.
The first six days were the coldest start to an April for 91 years, so the average weather from then on was never going to pull back such a massive negative anomaly. It is the first time for 27 years for the first four months of the year to all come in below average.
Precipitation: 27.6 mm / 1.09" (Avg: 49.3 mm / 1.94")
Precipitation > 0.1 mm: 13 days
Precipitation > 1 mm: 8 days
Highest Precipitation in a day: 6 mm / 0.24" (10th)
Sunshine: 176.4 hours
Days with abundant sunshine (more than 10 hours): 8
Days with little sunshine (less than 2 hours): 10
Sunless days: 6
So a fairly normal April temperature- and sunhsine-wise, albeit dry.
