Are trees leafing out unusually late in the upper midwest this year? (most, South)

I don't know when they usually come out around the Great Lakes and midwest region but it as of today May 12th, a lot of trees are barely starting to show any green. Is this usual in these areas?

It has been an unusually cold spring so everything will probably be leafing out late.

Yes, they leafed out 2-3 weeks late here in coastal CT as well. Most regions are experiencing similar results this year.

Even in the deep south here it was late April before a lot of trees showed green...vs Mid to late March last year.
