D+ from me... survivable but undesirable.

Pretty bad climate, but gets points for sunshine and dryness. The deciding factor for me would be the wind. If it's generally calm I'd give it a C-. If it's very windy it gets a D-.

I prefer the Southern New Zealand climates: Alexandra, New Zealand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rubbish. Fairbanks is 22.1/10.7 in July, Alexandra is 25.2/10.9 in January. Solar radiation is much stronger at Alexandra, and the nature of the terrain makes the dayteime temperatures seem higher than they are. The sunshine normal is misleading as values of up to 100-200 better are available in close proximity.

Hmm? I was saying Fairbanks has warmer summers than Esquel and Alexandra is warmer still.

Hard for my to like a place with summers insufficiently warm. Also very cold nights in all seasons. D

Sorry - brain fade. I thought AdriannaSmiling was citing Alexandra summers as colder than those at Fairbanks, so I really misread badly (wrong poster, failed to notice enclosing box for quote etc). Somewhat distracted by other things at the time, but even so ...

Maximum temperatures look very similar to the English midlands throughout the year but minima are cooler due to being drier and considerably less cloudy. 2400 hours of sun I would consider a decent enough total.

Hence I will rate one grade up from the UK so a C. Even with the extra sunshine the summers are still going to fell quite cool, especially in the mornings and evenings with the low minima. Don't like that there is possibility of frost all year round and not just slight frost either with a record low of -5C in the warmest month of the year.

Summer still exists regardless of what you think, and even though the summer nights are chilly, or downright cold, the summer days look pleasantly warm. The summer in quotation marks is unnecessary, summer exists in this climate, and that is not debatable.

I agree. Today it's 70 F/21 C with sunshine...similar to an average summer day in Esquel. Not exactly shivering out there. I could be wrong, but doesn't the sun feel stronger in the SH?
