The coast of the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina (which includes Florianopolis - often shortened to Floripa) and that of SE Queensland (including Gold Coast) share about the same latitude (27-28 degrees S) and the same temperatures, and they are both major vacation spots for sunseekers (at least in the summer).

Floripa: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floria...3polis#Climate

Gold Coast: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_C...nsland#Climate

Which of these is preferable in the summer? In the winter?

Both are comfortable, but I prefer warmer temperatures. In any case, I chose Gold Coast, for warmer winter days.

Florianopolis. It has colder "winters" and summers and slightly more rainfall. It doesn't have an actual dry season and probably has less than 2000 sunshine hours.

F has only around 2000 hours of sunshine, and there are much sunnier parts of Brazil. Gold Coast wins.

Florianópolis, for cooler temps all around

Wikipedia's rainfall data for the Gold Coast is out of date. The annual total is now about 1300mm for the Gold Coast Seaway station, and a station with a much longer record has an annual total of 1450mm. Also, other areas tend to have cooler nights getting as low as 9-10C in July.

Florianopolis and the Gold Coast have very similar climates though, so it is a difficult choice for me. But I would prefer higher sunshine hours, so Gold Coast it is.

Both are too similar in the averages, in the records, even the precipitation don't have a big change.

I would chose Gold Coast to live because, well, it's Australia. But speaking of climate they are really too similar, i don't know if i have a preference.
