It's still a very good climate, but its lack of real annual rain is almost as bad as having a cold winter season.
Even Koppen classification says that Honolulu is tropical. I've proved this to you over and over. Sorry to break it to you, but you're wrong.

Koppens formula says otherwise. Someone edited the wrong information about Honolulu on wiki, but if you do the mathematics yourself, according to Koppens aridity formula, Honolulu is NOT a tropical climate.

If we're talking about a climate that lies in the tropics, I'd probably choose one of those:

Quito - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Paz#Climate
Bogotá - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bogotá seems to be the best one.
If we're talking about a climate that qualifies as tropical according to Köppen's classification, it'd probably be this one:

Easter Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia althoug this is far from being a perfect "summer-climate" for me, because November to April are far too hot.

Except that Koppen made an exception for Honolulu because of the rainshadow effect. Honolulu is tropical. Besides, Koppen's formulas have plenty of faults in them, and have been criticized many times. Trewartha's is more reliable, and also shows Honolulu as truly tropical.

Would your example with Honolulu also be similar to the fact that Victoria, BC is classified as Mediterranean according to Koppen due to the rainshadow effect causing lower rainfall even though it has more in common with other Oceanic climates? Another example of how Koppen failed.

Yes indeed, you're completely right! I have seen how Koppen also rated Portland and Seattle as Mediterranean simply because most of their rainfall occurred in winter! Ridiculous!

well it doesn't have to be as warm as Key west just warm enough that a once in a century cold snap wouldn't produce a freeze or even a ground frost.

Indeed, Hurricane. I remember a few years ago while Miami saw frosts the Keys were only in the upper 40sF at night, 60sF during the day.
