Vancouver in summer is awesome.
I have gone swimming while on vacation in Vancouver,
at English Bay (I think?), anyway it was refreshingly cool water for sure.
Definitely New Orleans. It looks a bit hot and muggy but it's preferable to the chilly summers in Vancouver which would be better suited for late autumn/early spring.
Chilly summers? Vancouver's temps are in the 70sF in summer! How is this chilly?
The nights are in the low teens C/50's F, which is too cool to wear only a t-shirt and shorts, and for me this is unacceptable in summer. I'm guessing it usually wouldn't warm up to 20C/68F until the afternoon, and on some days not at all. Anything less than 20C/68F feels cool to me, and Vancouver is below this temperature for most of the summer.
NOLA obviously has more of a "real summer" but it's just too hot for my preferences. If it were 10 F cooler it would be an easy winner. Sunshine hours are roughly similar, but NOLA has a greater percentage of clear skies. Vancouver's summer means are very similar to my own city -- certainly not ideal for summer, but fairly comfortable. NOLA on the other hand is comparable to the worst the tropics have to offer, although I would love all the thunderstorms. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I might have to give the edge to Vancouver.
