I have a theory that the dry summer phenomenon of western north america at high latitudes (i.e. PNW) was directly linked to the Asian summer monsoon. The peak of rainfall seen at relatively high latitudes in the summer (eg. Vladivostok and Sakhalin Island) caused by the onshore flow counterbalances with the dry summers of the PNW. The size of the Asian landmass causing the Asian monsoonal flow is the reason why the dry season is stronger in the PNW at the equivalent latitude compared with Europe. What do you all think?
