It's really hard to count because we can go for a week without rain so unless we are told its gonna be a really dry spell we wouldn't count.

I stated 41 days earlier in the week for a spell in Brisbane last winter.

However I do not have the data for Christchurch in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, or any London data between 1999 to 2008 to explicitly state the Brisbane period was the longest.

RWood - do you have any long term stats or thoughts around the likelihood of a dry spell in ChCh that would exceed 41 days over a 30 year period? As ChCh does not have the same rainfall skews as Brisbane (which has more distinct wet and dry spells) I am assuming this is unlikely - additionally so with London.

One other metric my weather 'dashboard' has calculated for Brisbane is the average 'longest dry run' based on 58 years worth of data (1955 to 2013, albeit 2013 being incomplete).

The average is 24.6 days meaning an "average" year will get a 24.6 day spell as its longest dry spell.

The longest dry run occurred in 1991, between 25th July to 17th September when not a drop of rain fell! Average daily sunshine in this period was 9.7 hours/day with an average daily maximum of 22.8C. Bliss

London didn't have any particularly dry spells between 1998-2008; most spring/summer months in 2003 and 2006 had the typical 15-25 dry days then maybe one or two wet days, then another 10 dry days etc.

April 2007 only had 3mm of rain but that was split between 24th and 26th, so only 23 dry days in a row.
