I prefer Joburg overall since it has a warmer summer, but would prefer Wellington's precip distribution.

100% Joburg, you just can't compare the countless number of great climates that SA has to the meh of NZ.

Joburg rarely gets that hot. According to wiki, the warmest day of the year typically reaches 31.4c.

It's still the better climate by far.

There are two mild climates for your latitude and altitude. I prefer Johanesburrgo in my region would be little colder in the winter for the altitude and a little more snowed. As winter is dry it is more difficult.
