This is centered on the southern half of Lower Michigan. Indy will certainly be colder then normal as well. The snow part is more iffy, though. If I recall that winter (69 - 70) the storm tracks were pretty close to Indy so some of the precip could have been lighter snow or maybe even freezing rain. If temps in the first week of January aren't like 8/-5 or something like that, then I've misjudged the winter. (It sometimes happens )

Wow!! Temps in the East right now south of New England are about 20-40 above normal! I have the window open early this morning. SW Winds.

Binghamton, NY at 63° should be 27°.
Windsor Locks, CT at 53° should be 27°

The current setup. 500mb Heights and Winds. Clockwise winds around the ridge pushing south/southwest winds up the East. Northwest bringing cold air inside the trough.

Check out that southerly flow - straight up from that cesspool of evil air known as the Gulf of Mexico , with some pretty strong winds to boot. On the other side of it, Kansas got a monster of a snowstorm - last night I heard that 3 inch per hour rates persisted for 5 hours in some spots (yielding 15 inches). That's what I call a comma head snow .

That's some intense snow rates! And The Ice Storm from Oklahoma to Maine is insane. Just stuff we don't think about until we see images like this in Toronto Canada

The northern/western suburbs of Chicago and into Wisconsin look like a winter wonder land

Poplar Grove near the Wisconsin border

My buddy sent this from his house in west suburban Elgin

Down here in the southern suburbs of Chicago it looks like muddy brown ****.

Webcam in a field behind a local school

Wild troughs clashing with abnormal ridge of warmth causing a severe storm to blast Ireland and the Britain. but January might bring a big change to a colder pattern according to the Euro
