Pattern favors storms to cross the Ohio Valley. Less cold for me, but likely more snow.

^^^^ Good post-- but honestly I have never experienced such a relentless Winter.
And from what I'm hearing most others haven't either.
I spun out in the whiteout, in heavy traffic tonight....
This Winter, I've seen more cars all over the place than ever.
It's as if they just don't salt the roads, anymore.....
where the Hell does all that tax money go, anyways??

We had similar recent winters to this such as 07/08 and 08/09. Even 09/10 and 10/11 were intense, but more snow than cold. However, this winter reminds me of those of the late 70's and early 80's when I was just a kid. Certainly brings back some fond memories, and nostalgia of winters past.

Check out this snowfall trend graphic. Gives you a good idea of which winters were epic, and which were lame

School was cancelled tomorrow, so I'm not working, and I WAS thinking of going out for a drink, but..... Yeah, doesn't look like a good idea right now

This webcam is about 7 miles east of Chicago city limits....

Wind chills to 55 below zero Monday morning in my area (northwestern Minnesota) and yet school is still on.

-40 below here tomorrow night.

Most schools will be closing. Yes, we have become a bunch of pansies. I know for a fact that back in the late 70's and early 80's during similar or worse cold waves, schools were NOT cancelled... I remember walking to school when the buses never showed.

If it's any consolation for you, the local NBC weather guy in St. Louis TONIGHT showed the pacific ridge and the jet stream and the arctic air taking our temps from a high of almost 60 today to 11 or something tomorrow and blamed it squarely on climate change, mentioning the arctic is warming so fast.

There are still true believers out there spreading the gospel.
