A look at the 850mb and 925mb temps. Changeover happened because storm track pushed warm air north but cold air hung on long at the surface hence the ice and not snow to rain.

Look where the freezing line is at 4000' compared to 2000' here.

2PM totals 7.0 inches at O'Hare and 7.2 inched at Midway. If not a single flake fell for the rest of the winter, ORD's 59.6 inches would rank 8th snowiest out of a 129 year record. Midway is around 63 inches

Whew! Out plowing and shoveling at eleven, 6-8 inches down. I just shoveled the steps up to the barn and there was ten more inches down. Light and fluffy, it makes me wish I had a leaf blower. And it's still snowing! 21F currently.

After the wettest January on record in Nice, we've already reached the average February rainfall in the first 5 days.

Average temps so far: 6.3/9.7°C, about 4 degrees below average.

A humongous sunshine total of 0.4 hours, or 4.8 minutes per day.

All hail the French Riviera and its celebrated blue skies
