I think you might have some time. Especially if Greendland Blocking develops at the end of the month

But there will be a thaw mid February by the looks of it

Cool, looks like we may stay slightly below average while the interior warms up. And look at Alaska. They could be going below normal now.

We've had 13" since last night, bringing the total to 253" with 100" base depth. It's still snowing steadily and there's snow forecast for the next week. It's very windy and they're going to close the main road to do avalanche mitigation work.

That's insane. Are homes sitting up high or is that total on a mountain somewhere? Any pics for us??

So take a look at this. Just insane. The pattern is changing so much that the models doesn't even agree on the next 24hrs.

This is for Danbury, CT. Euro left. GFS right.

  • Lets start with tonight 1am. Euro has 11°F, GFS has 21F
  • Sunday 7am Euro 9°, GFS 18°
  • Tuesday & Wednesday morning Euro near 0°, GFS in teens upper single digits.
  • Euro has snow on Thursday. GFS has rain Thursday night
  • Friday morning Euro has upper 20s, GFS upper 30s.
I'm so glad I'm not a forcaster. Usually they are close but this is crazy. Just by this I assume GFS has a storm tracking over the area as opposed to the Euro off shore

I usually follow each update everyday but haven't lately so I have no idea whats trending and who's off too much.

I'd love to see pictures too of all the snow and how it's handled. Had a cold one last night. Ended up down to -8F and that wasn't expected. But when I saw current conditions were clear about 2am I knew it would be a shivering one early this morning. Sure enough at 8:17 am it hit -8F before turning around.

This is at 8800'. There's even more snow up higher. There are very few buildings here and they're built to handle the snow load (obviously). You just clear the roof if it gets too deep and clear around the sides to keep doors and windows clear. That's about it. I'll get some pictures.

NOAA's winter forecast issued in November on left, Bastardi's on right, and anomaly thus far

Most medium range ensembles are showing warming in the 11-15 day period

Sun is slowly starting to pick up strength. Just noticed it yesterday when the temp was -17C outside clear skies at 12pm and the streets were slushy.
