We will be mauled. A foot of snow to be dropped on us this Thursday. This better be the last big storm. As it is, we have 8" of snow on the ground. Another foot brings the total CURRENT snowpack to 20" .

Up to 800 mm near Brignoles apparently. I don't see the French Riviera as a year-round sunshine spot, having been there in February and April. The weather on both visits was quite lackluster. I think it's better to stick to summer, if one doesn't mind the large swarms of tourists.

Not a year-round sunshine spot per se, but definitely the best that the country can offer in that regard. (Well, the southeast Mediterranean, which includes the French Riviera).

Summer sunshine is virtually guaranteed, but even in winter it is not uncommon to have long stretches of 80%+ sun, as in December 2013, March 2012, February 2012, Jan 2012, Dec 2011, etc. which is a huge upgrade (well if you are a sunshine lover like I am) over the rest of the country. This winter and last year have been particularly ****ty though.

April is a curious month here though; during the whole Jan->July spring/summer buildup, the March->April improvement feels the weakest (aside from DST), whereas in most of France it's a marked transition. Temps are only a notch higher than in March (especially the first half) AND for some weird reason I haven't figured out, it's cloudier (56% vs 59%) and wetter. Even May is just as sunny and wet as February (58%).

Are there decent jobs to be had in PR? I thought you didn't like the tropical climate there?

It was raining here in Athens, GA when I went to sleep last night, but it's since changed to sleet, and I can see it accumulating on the ground in patches, and also on most other surfaces.

Major thaw for the eastern US, but it won't last.

GFS suggests we will be close to 50F/10C by the end of next week. That is 77 degrees warmer than outlying Rochelle's -27F/-33C low this morning.

Wonder how warmed the forecast would it be if we had no snow pack? 60-65F?

March looks like it will be very unsettled with cold conditions coming back
